ABOUT SANDY

Putting My Experience
to Work

Sandy has lived in New Martinsville since 1957. She is a 1971 graduate of Magnolia High School with some college education focusing in accounting. She married Steve Hunt in 1976 and they have two children, Aaron who lives with his wife Kristen in McMurray, PA and Jae C. Lehew who lives with her husband Byron in New Martinsville. Jae is now the 2nd generation owner of S & S Diamonds, a business Steve started in 1981 and Sandy spent many years working alongside him. Two grandchildren who both live in New Martinsville - Quintin Richmond and Asia Rosenlieb. Asia and her husband Sabastian have one child, Mia, with their second child due in April.

As a community member Sandy has been very active over the years. She was a former board member at the Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce where she served on the Executive Committee as a Chairperson of Community Engagement. From that position she formed the Wetzel County Convention and Visitors Bureau in the fall of 2009. She has been involved in community development focusing on tourism and destination development for the past ten years. As President and Chief Executive of the Wetzel County CVB Sandy was able to transition the Jim Fitzsimmons Historical Collection into a museum. With her leadership the board of the CVB started the Back Home Festival in 2017. It has grown steadily over the last years, with over 20,000 in attendance over the weekend in 2019.

Sandy handed over the reigns of the CVB earlier this year but she is still leading the charge with BluePrint Communities which focuses on revitalizing older communities and neighborhoods. In fact, creating a better community by attracting businesses and residents is one of Sandy's main goals of her campaign.

Sandy's platform also includes the following main points:

*Open form of government to include modern methods of communications

*Strategic planning for city government shared vision for how we see New Martinsville in 10 years and a workable plan to attain those goals

*Update city ordinances- eliminate outdated ordinances and draft new ones where necessary

*Fiscal responsibility filling gaps in personnel and wage disparity

*Disaster planning currently the city does not have its own disaster plan in place

*Standard operating procedures these are a valuable tool in the case of employee turnover and for training purposes
